THE FRENCH QUARTER

New Orleans’ French Quarter, also known as the Vieux Carré, is the city’s oldest neighborhood, established by the French in 1718 and shaped by a rich blend of French, Spanish, and Creole influences. Its colorful Creole townhouses with ornate iron balconies, hidden courtyards, and the iconic St. Louis Cathedral overlooking Jackson Square create a feast for the eyes, while the air carries the aromas of world-renowned Creole and Cajun dishes from legendary spots like Muriel’s and Cafe Maspero. A true cultural melting pot, it’s where jazz was born—still echoing through brass bands and impromptu performances—and where vibrant festivals like Mardi Gras bring the past and present together in a parade of color and joy. Steeped in tales of pirates, voodoo, and the Battle of New Orleans, the French Quarter doesn’t just preserve centuries of history; it lives it every day, offering a continuous, soulful narrative of the city itself.
